Ember is a small jewellery workshop in the heart of Belfast, located at 37,39 Queen Street, Belfast BT16EA. We are open to the public and are able to take on specialist work and commissions.
I first studied jewellery design and silversmithing at Kent Institute of Art and Design in Canterbury.
I was very lucky to have been taught by some of the leading silversmiths and jewellers in the world. I was taught not only how to make jewellery, but how to make the tools we needed for the trade, as custom tools cannot be bought of the shelf.
Whilst studying there I won first place in the Smallworkers Silver Bursary Award from the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, London for a unique perfume bottle.
I also received second place in the Smallworkers Award the following year when I designed a travelling chess set.
Having excelled in silversmithing and goldsmithing, my career took me to London where I had the privilege to work for Padgham and Putland, Ashford, Kent and then Richard Fox associates, Elephant and Castle in London, where I specialised in large one-off commissions in both gold and silver. I worked on pieces for the Sultan of Brunei, The Archbishop of Canterbury and 10 Downing Street.
One of my most memorable employers was working for Crazy Pig designs, London owned by Armand Serra.
Whilst working there I had the privilege to create jewellery for Ozzy Osbourne – Black Sabbath, Lemmy – Motorhead, Dolores – Cranberries, Tina Turner, Uriah Heap, ZZ Top, Metallica, Matt and Luke Goss from Bros. It is from this varied experience I enjoy creating unique individual pieces of jewellery which makes an individual standout.
Ember is my new on-line jewellery business from which I will take on specialist commissioned pieces as well as showcasing my own set range of designer jewellery. As previously mentioned, we have a jewellery display area which is open to the public at 37, 39 Queen Street, in the heart of Belfast. Feel free to drop in and take a look at our display.
